We recently created buttoned back and plain base cushions for these metal benches for Bristol Blue Lagoon, a local café bar.
Our customer supplied us with the metal benches and asked us to create back and base cushions. We measured the benches and cut ply boards to the correct sizes. Next up was a layer of firm foam, suitable for contract use. Finally, we upholstered the cushions using Newcastle Green leather from Crest JMT leather. We added buttons to the back cushions to create the chesterfield look and we think it looks great.
We really enjoyed working on this project and loved seeing the pictures of the benches back in the bar.
We recently upholstered a dental chair for our client based in Keynsham, Bristol.
Our client contacted us as their original chair needed some attention. We arranged for colour samples from Warwick Fabrics to be sent out to them so they were able to match the existing colour. They decided on Warwick Fabrics, using Ginkgo vinyl, colour Petrole. The vinyl we used is suitable for a health care environment, as the Ginkgo collection can be wiped clean and is already treated to contract fire regulations.
We then discussed the dates for the work to be carried out. As a dental surgery we understand that time is everything and that they needed the seat completed on a quick turnaround. Once the date was agreed, we attended early morning to collect the dental chair, took it to our workshop based in Bristol, reupholstered it and then delivered it back all within the same day.
This meant that their business was not impacted during this time and they remained fully operational.
We love working on unusual pieces, here is a bar front we have recently upholstered for one of our clients at JCB!
They supplied us with the drawings, unit and vinyl and asked us to create this look! The unit has holes already there where glasses can be placed!
We think the diamond stitching in a contrasting colour looks great! Do you have an unusual project you need our help with?
How exciting is this project we have recently undertaken. We were approached by Aero Collections Trust to assist with the upholstery for Concorde cockpit which is now based at Filton in Bristol.
Our client wanted us to upholster the head lining for the cockpit in a diamond quilted stitched effect. We had many meetings with our client to discuss the details and design to ensure this was correct.
We were given drawings to work to and worked closely alongside our client.
We are very proud of the finished look and our upholstery team were very excited to be able to undertake such an unusual project.
Take a look at our below photos where the upholstery team were able to get inside of the cockpit.
I would like to thank SW Upholstery and Andy and Alan on behalf of BACT and the FD Team for their excellent work on Thursday installing the AeroBristol Concorde Museum flight deck upholstery. Looks really great and adds all we had hoped for and more.
Your excellent help and skills appreciated,

The Battleaxes pub in Wraxall was undergoing a refurbishment and requested a mixture of brand new bespoke furniture and existing pieces to be upholstered.
As we’re sure you can see, the feel of the pub is very cosy and classic, incorporating pheasants and leaf patterns into the fabrics chosen. We created a 4m long sofa, round arm cocktail chairs, a buttoned back sofa, pouffe sets, and a range of scatter cushions. We also upholstered pinch back club chairs, a three piece button back suite and more, ready for their re-opening. All were upholstered in either Linwood Fabrics or Crest JMT leather.
Dental chairs can be expensive to replace. We offer a dental chair reupholstery service, saving money and giving you the option to choose from hundreds of colours.
Some of the examples below needed new foam, others simply required a new cover. Find out more on why to upholster your dental chairs here — repair dentist chairs.
This was a bespoke sofa project we relished being involved with from the moment it was dreamt up. Our client wanted to create a ‘Cosy’ look in their bar and expressed interest in making a large sofa to make the most of the space and make it feel a bit more like home than bench seating.
From drawings, sketches, and photos, we worked out a way to fulfil their criteria, by creating an 8.5m long bespoke sofa upholstered in a hard-wearing velvet.
A beautifully soft foam has been used in the base and backs for that added comfort. For extra luxury, we used turned legs with brass castors, and a gorgeous braid. With art deco style arms, this is a piece to remember.
We assembled the sofa in our showroom and had to extend it into the workshop it was so large! It almost disappears into the distance.
Now it sits in its new home at Cosy Club in Liverpool, and we think it fits in just perfectly.
When this customer came to us, they were looking for a way to make their bar more sophisticated.
We helped make that dream become reality by supplying a buttoned leather bar front.
It is now in their bar and looking fabulous!
Circo was undertaking a refit, so they contacted us for a free site visit to quot to upholster their bar seating.
Following the exciting first visit we confirmed their seating requirements and set to work on their buttoned back pieces. We also upholstered a number of armchairs.
The result is smart, stylish furniture. Don’t forget to give them a visit the next time you’re in Bath.
We carried out this block seating upholstery for a client who needed us to foam and upholster these interesting seating blocks, while they provided the carcasses.
We think they look great and the client does too.

South West Upholstery were called in to give a fresh new look to one of Bristol’s favourite Indian restaurants Blue Ginger.
We designed and made up new seating in a two tone effect using black faux leather and metallic silver faux leather.
We were given a tight deadline of just one week to complete the order but we pulled it off!
The finished result speaks for itself and looks absolutely stunning.
We were asked to carry out full upholstery and restoration of seating on a vintage bus this one is a Daimler CVD6 with a Weymann body, new to Exeter Corporation, or the City of Exeter in 1949. It is fairly rare these days in that it has a Daimler engine. Only six of this type were built as supplied to Exeter and only two remain.
South West Upholstery stripped all seats back to the frames, carried out woodwork repairs and replaced wooden frames where required. We then cut and shaped new foams for all of the seating. Finally new upholstery was cut, sewn and fitted using a forest green faux leather with piping backs.
A challenging job but we love keeping history alive!

Upholstered new cafe seating made for Clifton based Cafe 59.
New boards, foams and materials were supplied for this project. We advised our customer to work with a two tone design to include faux leather for the bases for easy cleaning and a jazzy cloth for the backing to create the wow factor.
South West Upholstery were called into a local Italian Restaurant to give a make over on the tired looking seating.
The owner couldn’t decide on the new material so we provided larger samples of each material they selected in order to view the fabrics on a larger scale.
The larger samples made the choice clear and we started to refurbish the seating. Each item was stripped back down to the frame, all the frame work was sanded down and varnished, then new foams & fillings added and finally new upholstery.
All the seating is back in the Restaurant with owner and customers alike very happy with the new look !
South West Upholstery were called in to provide hotel furniture upholstery seating for a well known hotel chain.
Our brief was to suggest a new fresh colour scheme to work with the exciting colours in the hotel. After a number of meetings with the hotel showing many samples we were in a position to move forward and bring the project to life. We were given a tight time scale to work within so we did not effect the hotel’s trade throughout the week or on weekends.
Starting very early in the morning we removed all the seating in one load and then begun to upholster in the fabrics the hotel had selected. South West Upholstery ensured all the fabrics we pretreated to Crib 5 specification for use in a hotel. After five days our works were complete.
A final delivery to the hotel was made so the whole area looked transformed over night. We have received excellent feedback from the management and hotel guests.
With such a busy environment it’s no wonder these seats had seen better days.
When the owner of this fast food outlet contacted us he explained that his shop traded seven days a week and had customers coming in and out at all hours. He was concerned that the project didn’t interrupt the daily running of his business too much. We were able to assure him that we would be prepared and ready to complete the job in hand quick enough as to not disrupt his customers. We only had a very tight time frame to get into the shop and complete the work. The transition from the old looking seating to the newly covered seats was seamless. Early one Monday morning we stripped out the venue and upholstered the seating the same day. All seats were returned ready for the shop to open up again at 3:00 PM sharp. And our customer was very pleased with the job and the fact that his trade was not affected during the re-fit.
