| South West Upholstery

Here at South West Upholstery, we love saving furniture from the landfill. However, we also recognise that sometimes this either isn’t possible, or a change in size or design is called for.

Introducing: our Bobbie Burns bespoke furniture collection. The premises we are in on North Street was known as Bobbie Burns, opened by the original Bobbie Burns in 1929 as a furnishings shop. It was bought by the Harris family in the 1960s, and finally by us in 2013. We love the history and legacy that is attached to the Bobbie Burns name, so we have labelled our bespoke furniture range for domestic and contract customers the Bobbie Burns collection.

A few things that are very important to us:

  • Our frames are all handmade to order in the South West of England
  • We only use FSC approved wood
  • The same upholsterer works on your piece from start to finish, taking great pride and satisfaction in it
  • You can customise your furniture however you’d like, whether you want a different size, shape, fabric, or fillings
  • You can order online by email, discuss your requirements over the phone, or visit our showrooms in Clifton Village & Bedminster, Bristol
  • We can deliver your furniture anywhere in the UK

How to order bespoke furniture

  1. Provide an image and dimensions of your intended design
We can make bespoke furniture to pretty much any shape, size and quantity and can work from photographs or drawings to bring designs to life and work with our clients to develop new designs to bring them to completion. Choose from one of our sample pieces or completely customise your own design for your chair, sofa, footstool, bench seating, and more.
  2. Our frame makers set to work
Our skilled team of frame makers start work on building your frame using only FSC approved solid beech wood, sourced from the UK wherever possible. All joints are glued, screwed, and dowelled for a solid, sturdy foundation.
  3. Upholsterers carefully build up your furniture
Our experienced team of upholsterers will then start to build your frame up using springs or webbing where required, high quality foam or your chosen filling, and upholstering in the fabric of your choice. Choose from the thousands we have on display or supply your own. The same upholsterer works on your piece from start to finish, taking great pride in the furniture they create.
  4. Quality control
All items undergo a strict quality control procedure and must be checked by at least two upholsterers before it is signed off for your viewing. At this point you can come in to view your item or we can arrange to send photographs.
  5. Delivery
Your item is wrapped and delivered safely to you. If you live locally to Bristol we will deliver in one of our own vans, alternatively we will arrange for a trusted courier to deliver your furniture to you. Now all you have to do is sit back, relax, and enjoy your lovely new furniture!

Contract and domestic clients

We can create bespoke custom made furniture as a one off piece or in bulk, for domestic and contract clients. Product development is something we very much enjoy bringing from paper and ideas to life. Once we have a design established, we can streamline the process by creating templates for the frames, foams, and fabric. Previous and current clients include: Loungers, SmithBrewer, interior design companies, and more. Find a selection of examples below, the range is ever growing and we love the challenge of creating something new! You can find more examples in our Recent Orders gallery.

Bespoke furniture for Lounge café bars and Cosy Clubs

Working with our client, Loungers, we create bespoke furniture for their branches, customisable by design and fabric choice. It is great to be a part of creating a family-friendly atmosphere in the popular Lounges and a more sophisticated feel for their Cosy Clubs.

Customised Blaise Two Seat Sofa in Velvet

Jackie chose our ‘Blaise’ sofa for its minimalistic design and opted for a bright yellow velvet to complement her art-based interior, with multi-coloured buttons to pull the room together.

Cadbury Winged Armchair in Leather

Mr & Mrs Weakley loved the design of our Cadbury armchair, combined with the practicality of leather and a bespoke lumbar cushion in the base of the chair.

Smyth Chair Built to Order

Mrs Davis fell in love with our Smyth chair the moment she saw it. As her home has amazing views of the fields from the window, it suited their home perfectly and ordered some bespoke scatter cushions in the same fabric after receiving their chair.

Bespoke Living Room Furniture to Customer’s Design

Lyn was undertaking a complete transformation of her home and had very specific ideas about what she wanted her furniture to look like, and what purpose it should serve. Working with her, we created two lounge chairs including a matching footstool for one, a large lounge sofa, a hallway sofa, a buttoned window seat and more. Don’t they look fabulous?
